Knights come up short to Pioneers, 59-53

The Queens College Women's Basketball team dropped a six point decision to The C.W Post Pioneers last night, 59-53. This meeting marked the last of three regular season games against each other. The loss bumps the Knights to an overall record of 10-17 and 9-11 in conference play. Post with the win improves to 13-12 and 11-9 in ECC action.

For the third time this season the Knights have come up short against the Pioneers. Queens battled the first half trading blows with Post and eventually heading to the locker room up two after twenty minutes of play. Unfortunately, the second half told a different story. The Pioneers, led by Janea Aiken who poured in a game and team high 24 points were able to best the Knights by eight in the second stanza, which was good for a 59-53 victory.

Two Knights posted solid scoring efforts in the loss to Post. Sophomore forward Chloe Johnson has now been the Knights' leading scorer in their last five out of six games. Johnson went off for a team high 21 points in only 25 minutes of work. Johnson was 8-17 from the floor and 3-8 from three point range in the contest while grabbing seven boards. Senior guard Christine Harnishfeger added 16 points of her own going 1-7 from the field but an impressive 13-16 from the charity stripe.

With a Molloy loss last night, Queens is now is locked in at the 5th seed in the ECC no matter the outcome of their game against STAC Saturday. The Knights will likely play the Pioneers in a first round ECC matchup.

The Knights final opponent of the 2011 regular season will be the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas. Tip off is slated for 5:00pm this Saturday at home. We would also like to remind everyone that it is senior night on Saturday with ceremonies taking place before the game.
