Fairweather/Hopkins both record double-doubles in win Against Mercy, 77-62

The Queens College Women's Basketball team beat the last place Mercy College Mavericks, 77-62 in Flushing last night. With the win the Knights improve to 10-14 overall and 9-8 in ECC action. With the loss the Mavericks drop to 5-17 overall and 3-14 in Conference play.

 

Four Knights found themselves in double figures as well as two of them recording double-doubles in last nights win. Queens uses a big second half to put the Mavericks to bed, outscoring their opponent by eleven in the half to go on to a 77-62 victory. The Knights shot a solid 42% from the field for the game as well as winning the battle of the boards, out re-bounding the Mavericks, 43-35.

 

Junior guard Amanda Bartlett led all scorers with 21 points in the contest despite only playing 18 minutes due to an ankle injury.  Bartlett was 8-13 from the field while going 4-7 from trey. Senior Jessica Fairweather provided a solid effort off the bench pouring in 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds recording her double-double in only 28 minutes of play. Fairweather was 7-12 from the field and 4-6 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Christine Harnishfeger also contributed with 14 points of her own as well as adding 6 assists and 7 boards. Freshman center Caitlin Hopkins also recorded a double-double in the win with 13 points and 13 rebounds while going 4-8 from the field.

 

The win keeps the Knights right in the thick of things in the ECC with a record of 9-8. Next up for QC is the Dowling Golden Lions on Wednesday February 16th with tip off scheduled for 5:00 pm at home. All live state and video can be found under the schedules tab on our website.
