Men's Basketball Pulls Away from St. Thomas Aquinas, 68-57

SPARKILL, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, including six points in a game-closing 13-4 run for the Queens College men's basketball team Wednesday night at Aquinas Hall, as the Knights (3-3, 2-1 ECC) picked up a 68-57, East Coast Conference triumph at Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

Fellow sophomore, Pat Piasecki (Coram, N.Y.) added 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds, while senior Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Daniel Watson (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; nine rebounds) chipped in with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The first half featured seven ties and four lead changes, as the host Spartans went into halftime with a 38-34 lead.

STAC went up by seven four-plus minutes into the second half, before a 9-2 spurt by the Knights knotted the game at 45-all when Lacayo sank a trio of free throws with 12:46 to go.

Watson gave Queens the lead for good at 51-48 when he knocked down a trifecta with 10:54 to go, before Mordi's triple kick-started the game-ending 13-4 stretch for the visitors with 7:07 remaining.

Head coach Kyrk Peponakis's Knights are back in action Saturday (Dec. 10), when they play host to a non-conference matchup at Fitzgerald Gymnasium against Pace University at 3 p.m.
