HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Senior forward Khalil McDonald scored 19 points on 8-for-16 shooting Saturday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex, as the Queens College men's basketball team competed hard in a 71-57 exhibition defeat at Division I Hofstra.
McDonald (Queens Village, N.Y.) added two blocks on the defensive end of the floor for the Knights, while senior Edil Lacayo (Bronx, N.Y.) knocked down a trio of 3-point field goals en route to 11 points. Both Lacayo and senior point guard Nana Boateng (Brooklyn, N.Y.; game-high-tying seven rebounds) swiped two steals apiece, while freshman point guard Abe Akanmu (Staten Island, N.Y.) dished out a team-high five assists in 19 minutes of play off the bench. Sophomore Jeremiah Mordi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) just missed double figures with nine points for QC.
Hofstra saw Matt Moore score 20 points and add seven boards, leading four Pride performers who scored in double digits.
Seventeenth-year head coach Kyrk Peponakis's Queens team kicks off its regular season Nov. 12, when it travels to Colchester, Vt., for a 1 p.m. contest at Saint Michael's College.
