FLUSHING, N.Y. – Metri Abdul-Karim, Danny Stoker and Peter Touros all scored one goal apiece Tuesday afternoon, as the Queens College men's soccer team moved to 7-7-3 on the 2011 season with a 3-0, non-conference triumph over visiting Concordia College.
The host Knights also received a five-save effort in net from junior Nelson Restrepo (E. Elmhurst, N.Y.), as they registered their eighth clean sheet of the season.
Queens got on the board over the Clippers (3-13) in the seventh minute of the match, when Abdul-Karim (Oceanside, N.Y.) blasted a 15-yard shot off Concordia keeper Paul Wavell (four saves) and into the lower-right corner of the net to put the hosts up by a 1-0 count.
Stoker (London, England) was fouled in the box in the 42nd minute of play, and stepped up to the penalty spot and buried his 12th marker of the season – including his third penalty kick in as many tries.
Touros (Bellerose, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with a solid individual effort in the 73rd minute of play, when he beat a defender one-on-one on in the left corner, dribbled to within 12 yards of the goal and found the back of the net to account for the final score.
Queens held a 24-14 edge in shots on the afternoon, as well as a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.
Head coach Carl Christian's Knights wrap up their regular season Saturday afternoon (Oct. 29) at 2 p.m., when they play host to the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference match on Senior Day. If Queens is able to beat the Purple Knights, it would qualify for the four-team ECC Championships the following week.
