NYACK, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Jovana Pavlovic led all players with 19 kills Saturday afternoon, leading the Queens College volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference victory at host Nyack College (25-21, 25-12, 25-21).
Pavlovic (Belgrade, Serbia) hit .341 while adding nine digs and two blocks (one solo), while junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) led the Knights (3-13) with three service aces while passing 11 digs. Sophomore Erin Eckes (Oconomowoc, Wis.) contributed an ace and a match-best 14 digs, while setters Stephanie Schroeder (Sr., Lynbrook, N.Y.; five kills, two aces) and Ceren Kilic (So., Istanbul, Turkey; five kills, eight digs) registered 16 and 10 assists, respectively.
Queens outhit Nyack (8-11) by a .219-.124 count, and held a 38-28 edge in kills.
In set one, the host Warriors were up 21-20 before QC freshman middle blocker, Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) put down a set-tying kill and kick-started a 5-0 run to lift the visitors to a 1-0 advantage.
The second set belonged to the Knights, as a 13-1 spurt lifted QC to a sizeable 18-6 edge that it would not relinquish – courtesy four kills by Pavlovic.
In the deciding stanza, freshman Rita Romeo (Glen Oaks, N.Y.) served up two straight aces as part of a four-point spread in helping Queens to a 23-17 edge that Nyack could not overcome.
Head coach Leanna Taylor's Knights are back in East Coast Conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 18), when they play host to Molloy College in a 7 p.m. first serve at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
