BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Senior middle blocker's 10-kill, 11-dig effort was not enough Thursday night for the Queens College volleyball team, as the Knights lost a three-set, East Coast Conference match at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium to host University of Bridgeport (25-22, 25-15, 25-15).
The visiting Knights (2-13, 0-7 ECC) kept things close in the opening set of play, as they hit .243 (13-4-37) in the stanza. In fact, QC scored five straight points to knot the set up at 20-all, before the Purple Knights (11-3, 5-1) scored the next two points and held on for the 1-0 match advantage.
Bridgeport maintained control behind the strong hitting of Biljana Savic (17 kills, .441 hitting pct.) en route to victories in the second and third sets to capture the victory.
Junior Suzanne Byrne (Richmond, B.C.) contributed five kills and eight digs for Queens, while setters, senior Stephanie Schroeder (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore Ceren Kilic (Istanbul, Turkey) dished out 11 assists apiece. Both Schroeder and freshman middle blocker, Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added three assisted blocks each to the Knights' defensive cause.
Head coach Leanna Taylor's QC side is back in action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15), when it travels to Nyack (N.Y.) College for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
