Knights blow by Bridgeport, 71-58

The Queens College Men's Basketball team turned in a convincing win over what was a first place University of Bridgeport on Monday night. The 71-58 victory helps the Knights improve to 13-5 overall record and a 10-3 mark in ECC play. The loss drops the Bridgeport Purple Knights to an overall record of 10-8 and a 10-3 mark in Conference.

 

The Men's basketball team helped complete the sweep of Bridgeport in convincing fashion Monday night. The Knights set the tempo with a close to perfect first half as they come. Queens who only used six players in the first stanza came out of the gate hot, playing very tenacious defense. Queens won the first half 34-26, while shooting 51% from the field as a team for the half as well as 38 % from three. Junior guard Edil Lacayo knocked down 11 of his 16 in the first stanza and Khalil McDonald also had a huge first half adding 10 of his 16 in the first half.  Freshman forward Daniel Watson also contributed with 11 rebounds.

 

The second half saw the Knights come out of the locker room fresh and ready for Bridgeport. Queens continued its good shooting, knocking down 44% of their shots in the half. The Knights were also successful in out rebounding their opponents which limited Bridgeport's opportunities for easy second chance put backs. As stated earlier the Knights were paced by Juniors Khalil McDonald and Edil Lacayo who both had 16 points. Terrell Simmons also added 12 points of his own as well as pulling down 9 boards and snuffing 6 Bridgeport shots.

 

Queens who now is tied for second in the ECC with Bridgeport at the 10-3 mark look to add another win this coming Wednesday. The Knights travel to Sparkill, NY to take on the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans with tip off scheduled for 7:30 pm.
