Bartlett/Harnishfeger Lead Knights past Mavericks 79-55

The Queens College Women's basketball team used great shooting from behind the arc to down the Mercy College Mavericks, 79-55. The win keeps the Knights right in the thick of things in the ECC with an overall record of 6-11 while improving to 5-5 in conference play. The loss sees the Mavericks fall to 4-11 overall and 2-8 in the ECC.

The Knights got off to a hot start and never looked back nor did they ever trail in the contest. Queens would lead by as many as 21 in the first half using the three-ball to their advantage, shooting 41% from the arc. The Knights took the lead into the locker room, up by the score of 36-18.

The second half was more of the same for the Knights who went 8-12 from three in the half in route to shooting 52% for the contest. Queens also shot 43 % from the field and 80 % from the charity stripe. Despite getting out rebounded, the Knights' hot hands were too much for the Mavericks to handle.

Leading the way for the Knights in this match-up were guards, Amanda Bartlett and Christine Harnishfeger. Bartlett who was 7-21 from the field also shot 50% from three going 6-12 beyond the arc, which was good enough for a 26 point effort. Harnishfeger who shot 56% from the field for the game also drained five three's in nine attempts good for her own 26 points while registering 8 assists , two shy of what would have been her first double-double of the season. Sophomore Chloe Johnson also added 13 points in the contest, and freshman Caitlin Hopkins led the way for the Knights in rebounding pulling down 13 boards.

Next up for the Knights is a trip to Dowling on Saturday Jan. 22nd to take on the Golden Lions. Queens looks stay on track and pick up consecutive conference wins. All the action can be followed at www.dowling.edu
