The Queens College Men's Basketball team pulled out a 78-71 victory of the visiting NYIT Bears on Saturday. The Knights used a huge game by senior Akim Neverson who dropped 29 points good for a game and team high to find themselves on top of Tech. With the win the Knights improve to 9-4 (6-2 ECC), while the Bears fall to 6-7 (4-5 ECC).
Four Knights' players found themselves in double digits last night. Akim Neverson led the way with a double-double scoring 29 points on 9-17 shooting while pulling down 11 rebounds. Both Khalil McDonald and Jerimiah Mordi added 12 points a piece for the Knights. Senior Anderson Labase, rounded out the scoring with 11 points of his own as well.
The Bears took an early 12-7 lead in the first half but the Knights fought back to knot the score 12-12 on a three-pointer from Anderson Labase. The half was tied twice more before Queens claimed a six-point advantage, 24-18, on a three from Nana Boateng with 8:56 on the clock. NYIT fought hard to close the gap but the closest it could get was within three points on three occasions. The Knights went into halftime with a 34-31 lead.
Neverson and the Knights came out of half a little sluggish.However, Neverson responded with a traditional three-point play to put Queens back in control for good, 52-51. The Knights widened their lead to 12 points, 68-56, at 3:04 on six straight points from Neverson. The Knights would finally close the game 78-71 and claim their 6th conference win of the year.
