Kopilas wins it for QC in sudden death OT, 15-14

Vanja Kopilas scored with 47 seconds left in sudden death overtime to give QC a 15-14 win over Iona College in front of a raucous crowd in Flushing. Camilo Bedoya and Nemanja Milijanovic also had four goals apiece in the Knights first home game of the year.

The Knights scored three straight goals to erase an early 5-2 Iona lead and tie the game at 5 midway through the second quarter. Phil Cabasino's goal knotted the game at 7 but Seth Tasman of Iona beat the halftime buzzer with a laser shot to give Iona an 8-7 lead at the break.

Both teams exchanged goals throughout the second half with QC gaining a deadlock at 13 on a Bedoya goal with 2:50 remaining in regulation. The Knights had two shots to win it in the final moments but Koplias and Cabasino had their shots turned aside with 52 seconds and 30 seconds left respectively.

Iona went ahead 14-13 when Tasman scored with 40 seconds to go in the first of two three minute overtime periods. They held the lead until Kopilas tied the score at 14 with his second goal of the evening with 21 seconds remaining in OT number two.

Each side had two shots turned aside and another catch iron before Algi Skukauskas (2 goals) found Kopilas all alone at the left post. Koplias converted on his attempt, giving the Knights a dramatic sudden death overtime victory and sending the boisterous crowd home happy.
