The Queens College Men's Basketball team completed their fall semester schedule with a thrilling overtime win against the visiting Purple Knights of St. Michaels College. The win helps improve the Knights to a 6-1 mark overall while the Purple Knights with the loss fall to 3-6 overall.
Queens once again saw four of their players in double digits in a thrilling Overtime Victory Sunday in Queens, NY. Akim Neverson tallied a game-high 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Anderson Labase added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Lamonte Lans chipped in with 14 points for the Knights, while Terrell Simmons notched 11 points. The Knights as a team shot 47% from the floor and 38% from behind the three point arc as well as out re-bounding their opponent to help lead them to victory.
Queens used a 7-0 run early in the second half to take a 38-36 lead with 17 minutes left in regulation, and the Knights never trailed for the remainder of the period. Saint Michael's stayed close, however, and rallied from a four-point deficit in the final minute of regulation, as senior Nate Birr (Burnsville, Minn./Saint Thomas Academy) made a jumper and a pair of free throws in the final 30 seconds of the second half to force the extra session.
After a Holton free throw opened the overtime scoring and gave Saint Michael's a 62-61 edge, it was all Queens after that. The Purple Knights never led again, as Queens went on an 11-0 run near the end of overtime to clinch the win getting help with two huge three pointers by Lamonte Lans and Edil Lacayo.
The Knights return to action in the New Year when they head to Orangeburg, NY January 3rd, for the Dominican College Tournament.
