Former Queens College men’s soccer student-athlete and alum of the Class of 2019, Vincent Companion enters his sixth season as part of head coach Frank Vertullo’s coaching staff.
Since transitioning from player to coach, Companion has been a critical asset in the program’s rise under Vertullo’s leadership.
Throughout his tenure, Companion has been deeply involved in all facets of the program, including player development, recruitment, tactical planning, and match preparation. His insight and dedication have helped shape a team that has consistently competed at the highest level of the East Coast Conference.
Under the combined guidance of Vertullo and Companion, the Knights have experienced unprecedented success, including four ECC postseason appearances, two NCAA Tournament bids, and capturing both the program’s first-ever ECC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. Companion’s efforts have contributed to the development of numerous All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference players, reflecting the high standard of excellence cultivated within the program.
Companion played for the Knights from 2015 to 2018, starting a total of 41 games in defense. He helped contribute to a stellar Knights defense during his senior year which saw the Knights post one of their best season with a 10-4-3 overall record, and 6-2-1 in East Coast Conference play.
A member of the South Shore Futbol Club coaching staff in Suffolk county, Companion helped coached a 2004 boys team that went on to win the regional and state and regional championship en route to taking the national stage against the best 16 teams in the country.
Companion graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education in 2019 and is currently a Physical Education teacher in Suffolk County.
