Kevin Zhang enters his first year as an assistant coach under Travis Ponton at Queens College.

He helps with all aspects of running a competitive collegiate women’s basketball program, including recruiting, player development, practice coaching, video analysis, academic monitoring, travel logistics, and team events, while ensuring compliance with NCAA, ECC, CUNY, and Queens College rules.

Zhang brings extensive international, professional, and collegiate basketball experience. From 2022 to 2024, he worked with the New York Liberty (WNBA) as a Basketball Operations / Player Development Coordinator, helping train MVPs and All-Stars, and serving as a translator and mentor for Chinese center Han Xu. He was part of the Liberty team that won the 2023 WNBA Commissioner's Cup and Eastern Conference Championship.

As a player, Zhang was the first China-born athlete to debut and start in Canada’s top professional basketball league (BSL). He also played professionally in China’s NBL and U.S. minor leagues (TBL & ABA), and in college at San Diego Christian College (NAIA) and College of the Desert (JUCO), serving as team captain in his senior year.

Zhang holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from San Diego Christian College and a Master of Science in Sports Business from New York University. He is the first Chinese professional player to transition into NCAA coaching, bringing elite-level playing and mentorship experience to collegiate basketball.
