Giovanni Cruz, a Queens College alum and former All-ECC honoree goalkeeper, enters his third season under head coach Frank Vertullo.

The program’s all-time leader in wins, saves, and shutouts, Cruz brings elite experience and leadership to his role working with the Knights’ goalkeepers.

In just two seasons, Cruz has made a significant impact. In 2024, he guided Thanasis Shehadeh to ECC Goalkeeper of the Year honors, along with All-ECC First Team and All-East Region Second Team recognition. In his first year on staff (2023), Cruz mentored a group of four goalkeepers that helped the team post five shutouts and 12 wins, including the program’s first-ever ECC Championship and NCAA Tournament victory.
