The New Hyde Park, New York native has been playing soccer since she was in kindergarten and has been a player for the New Hyde Park Wildcats soccer club. Dena captained the junior varsity team at New Hyde Park Memorial High School and scored 31 goals in two seasons. At the varsity level, she got her team to the Nassau County Finals by scoring the winning goal against Garden City in the semifinals.

In 41 career games at Queens College, Dena has four goals and one assist. In 2009 Dena played in 13 games, scoring a goal against Concordia College on October 3rd while adding assists against St. Thomas Aquinas College On September 22nd and at Georgian Court University on October 21st.

Dena scored three goals in 17 games for the Lady Knights in 2008 after appearing in 11 games as a freshman in 2007 with 19 shots taken. All three of her goals come in a one week span. scoring twice on October 18, 2008 in a 3-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas and, seven days later, adding a goal in a 2-1 win at Bloomfield College.
