Greg Welch

After spending the past five years at fellow CUNY York College, Gregory Welch returns for a second stint as the head coach of the men's and women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams, as announced by Rob Twible, Director of Athletics, Wednesday morning. 
 
We are excited to bring back Coach Welch to his alma mater." Said Twible. "As a veteran coach, I am confident that he will continue to build on both programs and help the student-athletes succeed."
 
In his first term, Welch spent six years (2007-2013) as the mentor of the Knights team. Under his tenure, he was named the East Coast Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year on two occasions and helped lead the women's cross country team to their first ECC crown in 2009 as Co-Champions. During the 2013 season, He helped the Knights win their first ECC Outdoor Men's Track & Field Co-Championship during the inaugural league championship. 
 
After Queens, Welch joined the CUNY York College Cardinals as an assistant coach in 2017 before being elevated to head coach in 2019. In two seasons, Welch has assisted in the development of a total of 26 CUNYAC track & field All-Stars, while his student-athletes have combined for 10 CUNYAC All-Sportsmanship honorees between cross country and track & field. 
 
Welch is certified as a Level one track & field coach as recognized by the USA Track & Field Coaching Education Program. He has also completed the Track & Field Technical Certification Course given by the USTFCCCA Association.
