QC Head Coach Frank Vertullo

Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Queens College Frank Vertullo is a former National Coach of the Year and NJCAA National Championship–winning head coach who joined the Queens College men’s soccer program in 2017.
Queens College Coaching Career (2017–Present)

Now in his eighth season, Vertullo has become the winningest coach in program history, leading the Knights to an impressive 81-48-16 (.613) record.

Under his leadership, Queens College has achieved the following:

  • 5 ECC postseason appearances
  • 2 NCAA Tournament berths
  • 1st ECC Tournament Championship in program history (2023)
  • First two ECC Regular Season Championships (2024, 2025)

The program has also produced:

  • 3 All-Americans
  • 11 All-Region selections
  • 33 All-ECC honorees
  • 3 ECC Goalkeepers of the Year
  • Vertullo himself is a three-time ECC Coach of the Year (2022, 2024, 2025).

Previous Coaching Experience

Suffolk County Community College, Head Coach
Before arriving at Queens, Vertullo served as head coach at Suffolk County Community College, where he became the program’s all-time winningest coach with a remarkable 161-24-13 (.846) record over 10 seasons.
His accomplishments include:

  • 5 regional championships
  • NJCAA National Championships in 2010 and 2014

Dowling College, Assistant coach
Vertullo began his coaching career at his alma mater, Dowling College, spending six seasons as an assistant coach. During his time there, the program earned:

  • 4 NCAA Division II Final Four appearances
  • The 2006 NCAA Division II National Championship

Playing Career

As a student-athlete at Dowling:

  • Four-year starter
  • Three-year captain
  • Appeared in all 73 matches
  • Helped the team to a 52-18-3 record
  • Three-time all-conference selection
  • NYCAC Newcomer of the Year (1997)
  • Participated in 3 NCAA Tournaments (1997, 1998, 2000)
  • Won 2 conference championships (1997, 1998)

Professional playing career:
Following graduation, Vertullo played professionally for the New York Freedoms, serving as a two-year starter at center back. Highlights include:

  • Reaching the 3rd round of the U.S. Open Cup (2004)
  • Playing a friendly against Juventus (Serie A)
  • Making two USL playoff appearances

Education & Professional Background

Vertullo earned:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Dowling College (2001)
  • Master’s degree in Education, Dowling College (2004)

He is a 21-year educator and has been a collegiate soccer coach for 25 years.
