Sheldon Rothman
Rothman was the team captain of the swimming and water polo teams. He coached the 1984 Queens College men’s swimming & diving team that won the Metropolitan Swimming Championships; the first and only title to date. Rothman also coached the 1997 men’s water polo team winning the Northern Division Conference Tournament, the Eastern Championships, and placed 3rd at the NCAA Division I Championships (the first non-California team to place higher than 4th). Four players from that 1997 team were selected as All-Americans. Rothman was selected as the 1997 Division II National Water Polo Coach of the Year. He also started the Queens College varsity women's water polo team. Rothman earned his Doctorate in Mathematics from CUNY Graduate Center in 1978. The 1972 Queens graduate earned his degree in Mathematics and currently is serving as a Professor of Mathematics at Long Island University/Post University.
