Robert (Bob) H. Salmons | Coach & Administrator,
1947–70s
Robert (Bob) H. Salmons (1918–2006) played sports
throughout high school. After a brief stint at pro-ball, he
attended Murray State University (Kentucky) on football
scholarship. Named All-American (basketball), All-State, and
All-Conference, he began to develop his golf skills along with a
lifelong love of the game. After two years in the Army in WWII, Bob
attended Columbia Teachers College, earning his master’s and
doctoral degrees. He joined QC as a teacher and coach of the
basketball team and then of the golf team. Later he served as
liaison for the architects that designed and built FitzGerald Gym.
Subsequently he was Administrator of the department’s
graduate program, and retired in 1989.
