WALTHAM, MASS. – Hitting the road to Waltham, Mass, to wrap their two-match week, the Queens College women's soccer team matched up against regionally-ranked #10 Bentley University Falcons at Bentley Soccer Field.
MATCH RECAP
Matching up against their second ranked foe of the week, the Knights found themselves trailing 1-0 as the Falcons scored in the fourth minute of play.
With the Falcons controlling the passage of play, including recording six shots through the 20 minutes of play, Queens would get their first shot of the match in the 32
nd minute of play as rookie midfielder
Mia Goicochea's (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) effort on goal was denied by a timely save from Falcons goalie Holly DiPalo.
Sophomore goalie
Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) would record two more saves over the final 10 minutes of the first half to keep the Knights' deficit at 1-0 heading into the break.
Just as Hines-Hirsch tallied another save in the 48
th minute of play, an offside call would cancel a Queens attacking opportunity in the 51
st minute.
As Queens looked to increase the tempo, the Knights earned a free kick from 20 yards out. Sophomore forward
Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y. ) stepped up to take the set piece in hopes of leveling the score. Her shot, however, narrowly missed grazing just beneath the crossbar.
In the 73
rd minute of play, junior forward
Carly Koprowski (Wantagh, N.Y.) had her shot blocked as the Falcons held on to their 1-0 advantage. The home side would later add an insurance goal, sealing a 2-0 victory over Queens on Saturday afternoon.
