Women’s Soccer Preview: Knights Return to Non-Conference Play Before Concluding Week in Buffalo in ECC Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team returns home for the first time since week two as they welcome the Setters of Pace University to town in non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
 
The Knights will then travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a weekend matchup against the Saints of D'Youville University on Saturday, Sept. 28 in East Coast Conference play.
 
In the lone game last week head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights fell to Roberts Wesleyan to the final scoe of 3-2 as both teams opened ECC play.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 2-3 Overall, 0-1 ECC)

  • The Knights are coming off a 3-2 loss to Roberts Wesleyan in their ECC opener. They were led by senior forward/midfielder Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) who recorded a goal and an assist, and sophomore forward Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.) who notched a goal.
  • As a team, the Knights have tallied six goals having notched 80 total shot attempts and 27 shots on goal.
  • Sophomore defender Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) Ragone and Rosenberger lead the team having recorded a team-high three points each.
    • Lewis earned a Honor Roll spot in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
    • Ragone earned a Honor Roll spot in the third ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
  • Sophomore midfielder Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) has recorded one game-winning goal for two points on the year.
    • Kieblesz earned a Honor Roll spot in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
  • While the duo of freshman Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y.) and junior Adriana Melgar (Queens, N.Y.) have tallied the two other goals on the year.
  • In goal, rookie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) has earned five starts and has recorded 23 saves with a goals-against average of 2.09.
    • Hines-Hirsch earned Defensive Player of the Week in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Knights have been tabbed to finish fifth. (Link)

Opponent Outlook

Queens opens the week in non-conference play against the Setters on Tuesday as both teams match up for the first time since the 2015 season. The Knights will conclude the week in Buffalo against the Saints as both teams return to ECC play.

Pace University Setters Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 2-4-1
  • Last Win: 1-0 (9/6/14)
  • Last Loss: 0-3 (9/3/15)
  • Last Tie: 2-2 (9/2/12)
  • The Setters enter the week with an overall record of 1-2-2 and are coming off a 2-2 tie against Saint Anselm College.  
  • Tuesday's meeting will be the eighth overall meeting against the Setters with Queens trailing the overall series 2-4-1.
  • The Knights are in search of their first win over the Setters since the 2014 season when they earned a 1-0 victory on September 3.

D'Youville University Saints Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 1-1-1
  • Last Win: 2-0 (10/28/23)
  • Last Loss: 0-1 (9/10/22)
  • Last Tie: 1-1 (10/30/21)
  • The Saints enter the week with an overall record of 0-5-1 and 0-1 in ECC play.
  • D'Youville is coming off a 0-2 loss to Mercy University in conference play.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the fourth overall against the Saints with the All-Time series at 1-1-1.
  • Queens earned their first victory over the Saints last season with a 2-0 victory in Flushing and are in search of their first victory in Buffalo.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Saints have been tabbed to finish sixth. (Link)

Week Five Outlook

Head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights stay on the road to begin the week as they match up against Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Oct. 2 in non-conference play. The Knights will conclude the week at home as they open a four-game homestand beginning on Saturday, Oct. 5 against College of Staten Island in ECC play.
