Women’s Soccer Preview: Knights Conclude 2024 Regular Season with Back-to-Back Home Games

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team concludes the regular season with back-to-back home games beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 30 as they welcome the Chargers of Dominican University of New York before officially concluding the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2 against the Lions of Molloy University in East Coast Conference play.
 
Last week head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights went 2-0 in ECC play earning victories over Mercy University and St. Thomas Aquinas College on the road.  

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 8-5-1 Overall, 4-2 ECC)

  • The Knights are coming off a 2-0 week earning 2-0 shutouts over Mercy and STAC in conference play to officially clinch the #3 seed to the upcoming ECC Women's Soccer Tournament.  
  • As a team, the Knights have registered 21 goals with 212 total shot attempts and 94 shots on goal.
  • Senior forward/midfielder Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) leads the team having recorded a team-high 17 points with a career-best eight goals and one assist to go with one game-winning goal.
    • Ragone has earned four Honor Roll spots this season for her offensive efforts.
  • The sophomore duo of midfielder Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) and midfielder Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y.) have recorded five goals and two assists.
    • Kieblesz has earned two ECC Honor Roll spots on the Weekly Report sheet.
    • Tavantzis was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 7.
  • While eight different Knights have each recorded a goal in sophomore defender Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), sophomore Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.), freshman forward Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y.), junior midfielder Adriana Melgar (Queens, N.Y.), Ava Angiuli (Wantagh, N.Y.), senior midfielder Gabrielle Ciambella (Williamsville, N.Y.), rookie forward Scarlet Adams (Auburn, Ala.), and senior midfielder Erica Petrie (Marlboro, N.Y.)
    • The trio of Lewis, Angiuli, and Petrie have been named to the ECC Honor Roll sheet.
  • In goal, rookie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) has earned all 14 starts and has recorded 67 saves with a goals-against average of 1.39.
    • Hines-Hirsch earned Defensive Player of the Week in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
    • On Oct. 14 the rookie goalie was awarded her third Honor Roll spot of the year.
    • On Oct. 28 Hines-Hirsch was named Rookie of the Week for the first time this year.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Knights have been tabbed to finish fifth. (Link)

Opponent Outlook

Queens wraps up the regular season with back-to-back home games beginning with non-conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 30 against the Chargers before hosting the Lions on Saturday, Nov. 2 as the Knights honor their graduating seniors in their annual Senior Day ceremony.

Dominican University of New York Chargers Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 3-2-1
  • Last Win: 5-1 (10/26/18)
  • Last Loss: 1-2 (8/28/22)
  • Last Tie: 1-1 (10/1/13)
  • The Chargers enter the week with an overall record of 6-6-2.
  • Dominican is coming off a 1-1 tie against Wilmington University in CACC conference play.
  • Wednesday's meeting will be the 7th meeting overall against the Chargers with the All-Time Series at 3-2-1.
  • Queens is looking for their first victory over the Chargers since October 26, 2018, when they earned a 5-1 victory in Flushing.
  • Both sides are matching up for the third straight season with the 2023 game getting canceled due to lightning on the road, while the Chargers earned a 2-1 victory over Queens back on August 28, 2022.

Molloy University Lions Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 9-14-2
  • Last Win: 1-0 (9/19/15)
  • Last Loss: 0-1 (11/2/23)
  • Last Tie: 0-0 (10/21/23)
  • The Lions enter the week with an overall record of 6-6-2, 6-0 in ECC play, and have clinched the ECC Regular Season title.
  • Molloy will host New Haven on Wednesday before traveling to Flushing on Saturday morning.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the 25th meeting overall with Queens leading the All-Time series to a record of 13-7-4.
  • Last season Queens earned their first victory over the Spartans since the 2016 season and are in search of their first road victory since October 12, 2013, when the Knights earned a 2-0 victory.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Lions have been tabbed to finish second. (Link)

Head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights have clinched a postseason berth for the second straight clinching the #3 seed to the ECC Women's Soccer Tournament. More details to follow next week.
