Women’s Soccer Preview: Knights Open Two-Game ECC Road Stand

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team opens a two-game East Coast Conference road stand beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Dobbs Ferry against the Mavericks of Mercy University before concluding their road portion of the 2024 schedule in Sparkill on Sunday, Oct. 27 against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College.
 
Last week head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights went 1-1 earning a non-conference victory over American International College before falling to Daemen University in ECC play to conclude the week.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 6-5-1 Overall, 2-2 ECC)

  • The Knights are coming off a 1-1 week having defeated AIC 3-1 in non-conference play Wednesday evening before the late rally fell short against Daemen Saturday afternoon.
  • As a team, the Knights have registered 17 goals with 182 total shot attempts and 76 shots on goal.
  • Senior forward/midfielder Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) leads the team having recorded a team-high 13 points with six goals and one assist to go with one game-winning goal.
    • Ragone has earned three Honor Roll spots this season for her offensive efforts.
  • The sophomore duo of midfielder Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) and midfielder Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y.) have recorded four goals and two assists.
    • Kieblesz has earned an ECC Honor Roll spot on the Weekly Report sheet.
    • Tavantzis was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 7.
  • While seven different Knights have each recorded a goal in sophomore defender Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), sophomore Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.), freshman forward Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y.), junior midfielder Adriana Melgar (Queens, N.Y.), Ava Angiuli (Wantagh, N.Y.), senior midfielder Gabrielle Ciambella (Williamsville, N.Y.) and rookie forward Scarlet Adams (Auburn, Ala.).
    • The duo of Lewis and Angiuli have been to the ECC Honor Roll sheet.
  • In goal, rookie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) has earned all 12 starts and has recorded 57 saves with a goals-against average of 1.63.
    • Hines-Hirsch earned Defensive Player of the Week in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
    • On Oct. 14 the rookie goalie was awarded her third Honor Roll spot of the year.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Knights have been tabbed to finish fifth. (Link)

Opponent Outlook

Queens wraps up the ECC road portion of the schedule beginning with a trip to Dobbs Ferry on Wednesday, Oct. 23 against the Mavericks before matching up against the Spartans on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Sparkill.

Mercy University Mavericks Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 11-11-2
  • Last Win: 3-2 (9/29/12)
  • Last Loss: 0-1 (9/23/23)
  • Last Tie: 0-0 (11/1/14)
  • The Mavericks enter the week with an overall record of 8-4-2 and 3-1 in ECC play.
  • Mercy is coming off a 4-0 victory over Dominican on Wednesday, Oct. 16 before earning a scoreless tie against Jefferson on Saturday, Oct. 19.
  • Wednesday's meeting will be the 25th meeting overall against the Mavericks with the All-Time Series at 11-11-2.  
  • Queens is looking for their first victory over the Mavericks since September 29, 2012, when they earned a 3-2 victory in Flushing. The last road victory came on October 3, 2011, when the Knights earned a 3-0 victory in Dobbs Ferry.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Mavericks have been tabbed to finish third. (Link)

St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 13-7-4
  • Last Win: 4-2 (10/18/23)
  • Last Loss: 1-2 (9/29/21)
  • Last Tie: 1-1 (10/22/22)
  • The Spartans enter the week with an overall record of 3-6-3 and 2-2-1 in ECC play.
  • STAC is coming off an ECC loss to Molloy on Saturday, Oct. 19, and will match up against Wilmington on Wednesday before hosting the Knights.
  • Sunday's meeting will be the 25th meeting overall with Queens leading the All-Time series to a record of 13-7-4.
  • Last season Queens earned their first victory over the Spartans since the 2016 season and are in search of their first road victory since October 12, 2013, when the Knights earned a 2-0 victory.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Spartans have been tabbed to finish eighth. (Link)

Week Nine Outlook:

Head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights conclude the regular season with two straight homes beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 30 against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York before concluding ECC play on Saturday, Nov. 2 against defending ECC Champions Molloy University Lions.
