HOOKSETT, N.H. – Opening non-conference play to begin the week the Queens College women's soccer team traveled to Hooksett, New Hampshire for a tilt against national ranked #13 Southern New Hampshire University Penmen at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Traveling to New Hampshire for the first time since the 2013 season rookie goalie
Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded a career-best 11 saves but the Penmen scored two goals in the first half and three in the second half to earn the 5-0 victory over Queens.
With the loss, the Knights moved their record to 4-4 on the year.
GAME RECAP
The Penmen looked to take an early lead in the opening two minutes of play, but the shot would sail out left.
In the sixth minute of play sophomore
Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) would dribble into their attacking zone but the sophomore shot would get blocked as the Knights looked to respond.
As the Penmen started to maintain possession, they would record two shots on goal but Hines-Hirsch would bottle up each shot to keep the game scoreless.
In the 13
th minute of play with the Knights on the counterattack senior
Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y) would notch Queens' second of the game but her shot would get blocked before the Penmen broke through in the 19
th minute of play with a goal from the top of the 18-yard box for the early lead.
The home team would double their advantage in the 25
th minute of play with a chip over the freshman goalie.
Looking to cut their deficit in half, Kieblesz would tally Queens' lone shot on goal in the 38
th minute of play but her shot towards the bottom left of the goal was denied by the Penmen goalie as Queens went into halftime trailing 2-0.
The Knights opened the second half as the aggressor as they looked to trim the lead in half but senior
Erica Petrie (Marlboro, N.Y.) shot in the 49
th minute sailed over the net.
As Hines-Hirsch continued to keep the deficit at 2-0, the rookie would notch six saves over the next 16
th minutes of play before Petrie's second attempt at goal was blocked in the 68
th minute of play.
But the home side would tally three goals in the final 15 minutes of play to complete the victory over the Knights.
BY THE NUMBERS
- In goal, Hines-Hirsch recorded a career-best 11 saves.
- The 11 saves are the most by a rookie goalie since Shenae Kreps recorded 10 saves against LIU Post on October 2, 2018.
- The Knights were outshot to a total of 25-7 and 16-1 shots on goal.
- Kieblesz and Petrie combined for four shots with the sophomore recording the lone shot on goal.

The Knights return to East Coast Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 5 as they welcome the Dolphins of College of Staten Island to town. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
