Ragone Tallies Team-Leading Sixth Goal as Women’s Soccer Late Rally Falls Short Saturday Afternoon

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Looking to conclude their homestand on a positive note the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed the Wildcats of Daemen University to Knights Field in East Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 2-0 with 20 minutes of play left, senior Julia Ragone's (Centereach, N.Y) team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 75th minute of play would bring the Knights within one, but the Wildcats defense would hold off the Knights as Queens fell to the final score of 2-1.

With the loss, the Knights move to 6-5-1, 2-2 in ECC play on the year.

GAME RECAP

Queens would go to work quickly as Ragone notched the first shot of the game on goal in the second minute of play but a timely save from the Wildcats goalie would keep the game scoreless.

Both teams would trade shots over the next 25 minutes of play but it would be the Knights who would tally four shots on goal as they looked to break through but each time the Wildcats goalie would keep the home side off the scoreboard.

The Wildcats would take a 1-0 lead off a corner kick in the 34th minute of play as the Knights were officially playing from behind.

Despite outshooting the Wildcats 8-5, Queens would go into halftime trailing 1-0.

Looking to find the equalizer Ragone and sophomore Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) would record shots on goal in the 56th and 58th minute of play but would be unlucky to find the back of the net.

The Wildcats would take a commanding 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute of play.

As Queens continued to maintain possession, they would be awarded a foul from 40 yards and rookie Morgan Khadra (Grand Island, N.Y.) would deliver for the second straight game as she found Ragone near the left post for the senior to head home the goal and cut their deficit down to 2-1 in the 75th minute of play.

The Knights would be held without a shot in the final 10 minutes of play as the Wildcats defense fended off the late rally and earned a 2-1 victory over Queens.
