Women’s Soccer Preview: Knights Return to Non-Conference Play Saturday Evening

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's soccer team returns to non-conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12 against the Lions of Georgian Court University to continue their homestand.
 
In a two-game slate last week head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights went 1-1 as they fell to nationally-ranked #13 Southern New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon before earning a victory over College of Staten Island Saturday evening.

Queens College Knights Preview (2024 Record: 5-4 Overall, 2-1 ECC)

  • The Knights are coming off a 1-1 week as they fell to SNHU before bouncing back with a 4-2 victory as they were led by sophomore midfielder Anna Tavantzis's (Holbrook, N.Y.) first career brace, and goals from sophomore midfielder Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) and senior forward/midfielder Julia Ragone's (Centereach, N.Y) in the victory over Staten Island.
  • As a team, the Knights have registered 13 goals with 142 total shot attempts and 55 shots on goal.
  • Ragone lead the team having recorded a team-high nine points with four goals and one assist to go with one game-winning goal.
    • Ragone earned two Honor Roll spots this season for her offensive efforts.
  • Seven different Knights have each recorded a goal in sophomore defender Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.), sophomore Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.), freshman forward Abigail Jalocha (Maspeth, N.Y.), junior midfielder Adriana Melgar (Queens, N.Y.), Ava Angiuli (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Tavantzis.
    • The trio of Lewis, Kieblesz, and Angiuli have all earned an ECC Honor Roll spot.
  • In goal, rookie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) has earned all nine starts and has recorded 43 saves with a goals-against average of 1.84.
    • Hines-Hirsch earned Defensive Player of the Week in the second ECC Weekly Report Sheet.
    • On Oct. 7 the rookie goalie was awarded her second Honor Roll spot of the year.
  • In the 2024 ECC Preseason Coaches Poll the Knights have been tabbed to finish fifth. (Link)

Opponent Outlook

Queens returns to non-conference play on Saturday, Oct. 12 as they welcome the Lions of Georgian Court University to town for their lone game of the week.

Georgian Court University Lions Preview

  • Overall Wins-Losses-Ties History: 5-3-3
  • Last Win: 1-0 (9/15/13)
  • Last Loss: 1-2 (10/12/16)
  • Last Tie: 3-3 (9/12/17)
  • The Lions enter the week with an overall record of 7-3.
  • Georgian Court is coming off a 2-1 victory over University of Bridgeport.
  • Saturday's meeting will be the 12th overall against the Lions leading the All-Time series to the overall record of 5-3-3.
  • Queens is looking for their first victory over the Lions since the 2013 season when the Knights earned a 1-0 home victory. Three of the last four meetings have ended in a tie and with Queens losing a 1-2 game on the road.

Week Six Outlook

Head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights stay at home as they conclude their homestand beginning with a non-conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 16 against the Yellow Jackets of American International College before concluding the week against the Wildcats of Daemen University on Saturday, Oct. 19 in East Coast Conference play.
