Hines-Hirsch Records Nine Saves as Women’s Soccer Earns Scoreless Tie against Regionally-Ranked #10 Georgian Court

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Continuing their homestand, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed the regionally-ranked #10 Lions of Georgian Court University to Knights Field in Non-Conference play Saturday evening.

Matching up against a tough Lions squad, freshman goalie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) and her defense stood tall as the Knights were outshot 9-5 on shots on goals to earn the scoreless tie Saturday evening.

With the tie, the Knights move to 5-4-1 on the year. Saturday's tie sees Queens earn their fourth tie against the Lions in their 12th All-Time meeting and second in back-to-back meetings since the 2017 season.

GAME RECAP

The Lions opened the game as the aggressors as they tested Hines-Hirsch with four shots on goal in the first 16 minutes of the game but the rookie would hold her own to keep the game tied.

The Knights would tally their first shot of the game in the 23rd minute of play as senior Julia Ragone's (Centereach, N.Y) shot sailed out top.

The Lions would tally their fifth shot on goal in the 27th minute of play but once again a timely save from Hines-Hirsch would keep the game knotted at zero.

The Plainview native recorded her sixth save of the first half in the 43rd minute of play to take a scoreless tie into halftime with Queens being outshot 7-3.

The second half of play would see Queens change their tempo as Ragone and sophomore Ashley Kieblesz (Middle Village, N.Y.) combined for four shots, with three shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of play.

Georgian Court would attempt to dictate the passage of play over the 10 minutes as they notched three shots on goals but each time Hines-Hirsch would bottle up the shots to keep the game scoreless.

Over the final 20 minutes of play, the Knights would hold the Lions to three shots as the backline continued to keep the game deadlocked at zero.

As a Lions shot was blocked in the 88th minute and Queens negating a Lions corner kick, Ragone would notch a shot on goal but it was blocked in the final 30 seconds of play as both sides battled out to a scoreless tie after the full 90 minutes of play.
