Women’s Soccer Game Day Preview – Knights welcome Goldey-Beacom Tuesday Before Returning to ECC Play in Staten Island

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  The Queens College women's soccer team went 1-1 last week earning a shutout victory over #16 SNHU before a tough loss to defending East Coast Conference champions Mercy Saturday evening.  
 
This week the Knights continue non-conference play in Flushing as they welcome Goldey-Beacom College on Tuesday (Sept. 26) evening. Queens will conclude the week on the road with a conference matchup against College of Staten Island on Saturday (Sept. 30) morning. 
 
Schedule for the Week (9/25 – 10/1)
  • Tuesday (Sept. 26) – vs. Goldey-Beacom College – 7 pm
    • Series History: 0-2

  • Saturday (Sept. 23) – College of Staten Island – 11 am

Queens College Knights Preview (2-4-1 Overall Record, 0-2 ECC)
  • Head Coach Thomas Paris and the Knights went 1-1 last week earning a victory over #16 SNHU Tuesday evening before a tough 1-0 loss to Mercy Saturday evening.
  • On Tuesday (Sept. 12), the Knights were awarded the program's first-ever East Regional ranking by the United Soccer Coaches as they were ranked 10th.  
  • Junior Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) leads the offense having scored two goals for four points. 
    • To date, the junior has tallied nine goals and four assists in 34 matches. 
    • On Sept. 25, Ragone earned her second ECC Honor Roll spot of the season. 
  • Freshman rookie Lluvy Lewis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) has totaled three points having tallied her first goal and assist against Jefferson on Sept. 6.
    • Her Career-best performance would earn her ECC Rookie of the Week honors on Week Two of the ECC Weekly Report Sheet (Sept. 11). (Link)
  • In goal, graduate student Erin Kelly (Massapequa, N.Y.) has recorded 33 saves in seven matches holding a 1.02 goals against average with one shutout. 
    • She was awarded ECC Defensive Player of the Week in the first ECC Weekly Awards released on Tuesday (Sept. 5) afternoon. (Link)
    • She has earned an ECC Honor Roll spot on two separate occasions. 

Goldey-Beacom College Lightning Preview (0-2-4 Overall Record)
  • GBC enters Flushing with an overall record of 0-2-4 and are coming off a 0-1-1 week with a tie against Georgian Court and a loss to Bridgeport.
  • Tuesday's meeting will be the third meeting in program history and the first one to take place in Flushing since the 2017 season. 
  • The Knights are looking for their first win over the Lightning in program history. 
  • The Lightning are led by Mariah McQueen who has tallied three goals for six points. While Samantha Emmi has tallied two goals for four points on the year. 
  • In net, Nikki Cashin has made 30 saves and holds a 1.83 goals against average in six matches.  

College of Staten Island Dolphins Preview (2-1-3 Overall Record, 0-1 ECC)
  • Staten Island enters the week with an overall record of 2-1-3 and are coming off a 6-1 loss to Daemen University. This week they will match up against Mercy on Wednesday before hosting the Knights on Saturday morning.
  • It will be the fourth meeting against their CUNY with Queens holding a 2-0-1 series advantage. 
  • Last season both teams played out a 1-1 tie in Flushing.
  • The Dolphins are led by Isabella Radovini who has tallied nine points with four goals and one assist. While Arielle Uy has tallied six points for two goals and two assists.
  • In net, Sara Villacres and Brianna Dore have combined for 30 saves with a 1.83 goals against average.

Next Match
The Knights stay on the road as they travel to Springfield, Mass on Wednesday (Oct. 4) afternoon as they match up against the Yellow Jackets of American International College.
