FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to East Coast Conference play to conclude the week of play, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed 2022 ECC champions Mercy University Mavericks to Knights Field Saturday evening.
Playing in tough conditions, conceding a first-half goal would prove to be the difference maker as the Knights fell to the final score of 1-0.
Match Highlights
- In the 10th minute of play, rookie Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y) had the lone shot on goal in the first half as she was denied by the Mavericks goalie.
- The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute of play off a corner kick.
- As the rain and wind picked up in Flushing, the second half of play would see a midfield battle.
- On a breakaway, Jenna Rosenberger's (Smithtown, N.Y.) shot would be denied from the top of the box as the Mavericks goalie made a timely save.
- Continuing to press, Queens' next opportunity would come in the 83rd minute but an offside call would cancel the attacking opportunity.
- A final shot by Rosenberger would get blocked in the 84th minute of play as the Knights fell 1-0 on a very rain-affected match.

- Tavantzis & Rosenberger combined for two shots on goal.
- In goal graduate student Erin Kelly (Massapequa, N.Y.) made four saves on the evening.
