Women’s Soccer Opens ECC Play Against Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y. – East Coast Conference play opened Saturday morning for the Queens College women's soccer team in Amherst, N.Y. against the Wildcats of Daemen University at Karrer Field. 
 
Despite holding a 3-1 shots on goal margin, the Knights fell short in their ECC opener with a 1-0 loss to the Wildcats. 
 
Match Recap
  • The Knights were the aggressor in the first 25 minutes of play with Queens holding a 4-1 shots advantage including back-to-back shots on goals from freshman Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y.) and junior Brianna Obregon (Deer Park, N.Y.). 
  • In the 34th minute of play, the Wildcats would take a 1-0 lead as the home side converted a penalty kick. 
  • In the 42nd minute of play, junior Julia Ragone's (Centereach, N.Y.) shot would sail out left as the Knights went into halftime trailing 1-0. 
  • It would be a defensive battle in the second half as the Knights searched for the equalizer. 
  • An offside called against the Knights in the 67th minute would cancel a counterattack opportunity. 
  • Freshman Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y) shot on goal opportunity in the 87th minute of play would be turned away as the Wildcats held on to defeat the Knights to the final score of 1-0.  

Next Match
Head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights return to non-conference play on Tuesday (Sept. 19) afternoon as they welcome the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University to Flushing. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
