Men’s Soccer Game Day Preview – Knights Open Second Three-Match Homestand of the Year on Wednesday Night

FLUSHING, N.Y. -  Last week the Queens College men's soccer team went 0-1-1 on the road earning a high-scoring tie against AIC in non-conference play before falling to UDC in conference play.
 
This week the Knights open their second three-match homestand of the year beginning with a non-conference affair on Wednesday (Oct. 11) evening against the Panthers of Adelphi University before concluding the week in East Coast Conference play against the visiting Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday (Oct. 14) evening.
 
Schedule for the Week (10/9 – 10/15)
  • Wednesday (Oct. 11) – Adelphi University – 7:30 pm

  • Saturday (Oct. 14) – Roberts Wesleyan University – 7:30 pm
    • Series History: 5-5

Queens College Knights Preview (5-4-2 Overall Record, 2-2 ECC)
  • Head Coach Frank Vertullo and the Knights went 0-1-1 on the week as they earned a 3-3 high-scoring tie against AIC Wednesday evening before falling 2-1 against UDC in conference play.
  • On Tuesday (Oct. 3) Men's Soccer were awarded their third East Regional ranking of the year as they earned the #5 spot.
  • Senior Adolfo Martinez Paquet (Sevilla, Spain) leads the offense with a team-high 14 points with three goals and a team-high eight assists on the year. 
    • On Monday (Oct. 9) Paquet earned his second ECC Honor Roll spot of the year.
    • Paquet has registered a point in eight straight matches.
  • Sophomore Harry Cooke (Market Drayton, England) is second on the team with 12 points having tallied five goals and two assists.
    • Cooke has earned three ECC Honor Roll spots on the weekly award sheet.
  • In net, junior Juan Cruz Ladino (Cali, Colombia) and sophomore Jake Balme (Sheffield, England) have combined for 46 saves and hold a 1.64 goals against average with two shutouts on the year.
    • Ladino would earn ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday (Sept. 18) afternoon.
    • Balme earned an ECC Honor Roll spot in the second weekly award sheet.

Adelphi University Panthers Preview (6-4-1 Overall Record)
  • Adelphi enters Flushing with an overall record of 6-4-1 on the year and are coming off a 3-0 loss to Assumption in NE10 play Saturday evening. 
  • Wednesday's match will be the third meeting against the Panthers in program history and the first-ever meeting in Flushing.
  • It will be a rematch of last's year NCAA Tournament match which saw the Panthers earn a 1-0 victory over the Knights.
  • Victor Castel leads the Panthers with 12 points having tallied five goals and two assists, while Jesper Mikkelsen has recorded three goals and one assist for seven points. 
  • In goal, Two Panthers have combined for 48 saves and hold a 1.27 goals against average.

Roberts Wesleyan University Redhawks Preview (3-4-4 Overall Record, 2-1-2 ECC)
  • Roberts Wesleyan will enter Flushing with an overall record of 3-4-4 and 2-1-2 in conference play and are coming off a 1-1 draw against CSI in ECC play.
  • Saturday's meeting with the 11th meeting in program history with the series tied 5-5. 
  • Last year Queens ended a two-match losing streak with a 1-0 road victory and are looking for their first home victory over the Redhawks since the 2018 season when they earned a 2-0 victory.
  • Tamas Nagy leads the offense with 19 points having tallied eight goals and three assists, while Myles Palmer has recorded three goals for six points on the year. 
  • In goal, Caleb DaSilva has recorded 46 saves and holds a 1.47 goals against average.

Next Match
The Knights conclude the homestand on Wednesday (Oct. 18) evening as the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College come to town.
