BUFFALO, N.Y. – East Coast Conference play opened on the road for the Queens College women's soccer team as the Knights took on the Saints of D'Youville University at Dobson Field. 
 
It was the Saints who struck first as they scored in the third minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead. 
 
Queens would look to equal in the 13
th minute of play as sophomore 
Gabrielle Christian's (Forest Hills, N.Y.) shot was saved by the Saints goalie. 
 
Despite trailing 1-0, senior goalie 
Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) and her defense continued to keep her team in the game. A shot by Saints headed towards the bottom center of the goal was swallowed by Vargas as she kept the score at 1-0. 
 
Sophomore 
Jacklyn Diel (Stony Brook, N.Y.)  would be denied in the 27
th minute. After a foul on the home side gave the Knights a set piece in the 42
nd minute, graduate student 
Synne Flem (Baerum, Norway) shot on goal would be denied as the Knights went into halftime trailing 1-0. 
 
Queens picked the intensity in the second half as they outshot the Saints 7-3 but were unable to find the equalizer. 
 
An early goal by the Saints in the 3
rd minute of play would prove to be the difference maker as the Knights dropped the first ECC game of the season to the Saints to the final score of 1-0. 
 
Match Highlights
	- Four Knights tallied a shot on goal as the Knights held a 10-5 shot margin. 
- Vargas made four saves on the afternoon. 
- Queens held an 11-0 margin on corner kicks.
UP NEXT: On Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon, ECC play opens in Flushing as the Knights welcome the Wildcats of Daemen University to QC Soccer Field.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 P.M.
