Women’s Soccer Looks to Bounce Back against Chestnut Hill College

FLUSHING, N.Y. – As the four-game homestand continues on Wednesday (Aug. 31), the Queens College women's soccer team will welcome the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College to Flushing.

  • Last Matchup: September 8, 2021 (T 1-1) Current Streak: T1
  • Wednesday contest will be the first home game against the Griffins since September 26, 2018, when the Knights won 6-1.

Queens College
  • The Knights fell 2-1 in their season opener to Dominican University as the Chargers scored two unanswered goals in the second half to spoil Head Coach Thomas Parisdebut.
  • Sophomore Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) scored the lone goal for the Knights. 
    • Sunday's goal made it back-to-back season opener goals for Ragone as she opened her account in the double-double overtime draw against Chestnut Hill.
  • In goal senior Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) made two saves.
  • On Monday (Aug. 29), the East Coast Conference office awarded Ragone a spot on the Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Sheet. (Link)
  • The Knights have been picked to finish fifth in the ECC Coaches Preseason Poll.
Chestnut Hill College
  • The Griffins fell 4-3 to Le Moyne in the season opener on August 25.
  • They were led by Virginia Perry, Lauren Sullivan, and Madeline Jimenez who tallied a goal apiece.
  • While Sullivan, Abigail Galazka, and Rachel Apsley recorded assists.
  • In goal, Kaitlyn Carter made four saves.
  • Jimenez and Sullivan earned a spot on the CACC Women's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll Sheet.
  • Last season Chestnut Hill went 6-8-1 as they recorded the most wins in a season since 2012 when they went 8-11.
  • The Griffins have been voted to finish 10th in the CACC.
UP NEXT: On Sunday (Sept. 4) the Knights continue their homestand as they welcome St. Michael's College to Flushing. Kickoff is set for Noon.
