Women’s Soccer Concludes 2022 Season with a 1-1 Draw Against CSI on Senior Knight

FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Saturday evening, the Queens College women's soccer team 2022 season came to a close in a 1-1 draw against the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins on Senior Knights at QC Soccer Field.

Before introductions, head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights honored their 2022 graduating seniors and seniors from the 2021 team in their annual Senior Day Ceremony.

It was a match dominated by the Knights as they outshot the Dolphins 19-5 and 9-1 shots on goal margin.

The first half would see Queens outshoot Staten Island 14-3 but were unlucky to find the back of the net.

Queens began the opening 10 minutes with four shots but were unable to put their shots on target.

In the 19th minute, senior Sara Messemer's (Whitestone, N.Y.) shot would be denied with the ball headed toward the bottom center of the net. Queens continued their press but the Staten Island goalie continued to deny the Knights the opening goal.

The Knights tallied seven shots on target in the first half but would go into halftime with the game deadlocked at zero.

It was the Dolphins who opened the scoring as a deflection off a Knights defender sent the ball into the back of the net as the visitors took the lead just four minutes into the second half.

But the 1-0 deficit would not remain for long as sophomore Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) connected to senior Sara Messemer (Whitestone, N.Y.) in the 52nd minute to the knot the game 1-1.

Having tied the game 1-1, Queens continued to search for the game-winning goal. Freshman Aida Rose Dydasco Pedemonte's (South San Francisco, CA) shot would get saved in the 55th minute as the Dolphins goalie made a timely save.

In the final four minutes of play, the Knights were able to get two shots off but were unable to find the target as they ended the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw Saturday evening.

First-year head coach Thomas Paris and the Knights conclude the 2022 season with an overall record of 2-9-3 and 2-4-2 in East Coast Conference play.

Match Highlights
  • Messemer tallied her third goal of the season.
  • Ragone notched her second assist of the season as she finished the season with a team-high eight points.
  • In goal, senior Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) made one save on the evening.
