Men’s Soccer at St. Thomas Aquinas College Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College men's soccer team continues East Coast Conference play with a matchup against St. Thomas College Spartans Wednesday afternoon. In the 13 game games against the Spartans, the Knights are 4-6-3 overall. Queens has dropped the last two games against STAC.

Queens fell 0-3 on the road as the Spartans struck early and kept the lead for the remainder of the game. While the Knights outshot the Spartans 14-12, they were unlucky to find the back of the net. Marek Strzelczyk made three saves on the night. Cristian Villalta led the Knights with four total shots, while Emgi Gousse added three shots on the day. 
 
Scouting Queens College Knights
 
The Knights are on a two-game winning streak and will look to keep that momentum going. In the latest United Soccer Coaches poll released on Sept. 28, the Knights have climbed up two spots to be ranked #7 in the East Region. 
 
On the season sophomore Nicholas Tagios leads the Knights with a team-high six goals and 13 points. While sophomore Tobias Holtz has continued to control the midfield and leads the Knights with a team-high three assists. In his first season freshman Leonel Zelaya has been on a tear as he leads the freshmen squad with two goals, two assists, and a team-high 11 shots on goal. 
 
Scouting STAC 
 
The Spartans are 4-2-1 on the season and are coming off a 5-0 victory over D'Youville College Saturday. Cole Allen leads the offense for the Spartans with three goals, while five players have scored two goals apiece. Jorge Umana has contributed with four assists in helping the offense. Asier Vegas has started in three games while appearing in four games in goal for the Spartans. Vegas has allowed four goals while making 15 saves on the season with a 1.07 goals-against average. 
 
Next Match-up: The Knights open October in the nation's capital with a match-up against the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
