Men’s Soccer at Chestnut Hill Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College men's soccer team returns to non-conference action with a midweek match against Chestnut Hill College Griffins in Philadelphia, PA. The two sides are matching up for the first since September 21, 2016, which saw the Griffins defeat the Knights in Flushing. In their lone match on the road against the Griffins, the Knights defeated them 3-0 back on September 7, 2008. Chestnut Hill holds a 2-1 series lead over Queens.

Griffins Joseph Casaletto's free kick in the 53rd capitulated the visitors to a 1-0 victory over the Knights. Despite the Knights holding an 18-11 shots margin and 7-2 shots on goal advantage, the home side was unable to find the back of the net. In a game in which 28 fouls and five yellow cards were raised, the Knights could not get past Griffins goalie James Jackson. Andras Breuer led the Knights with a team-high seven shots and 3 shots on goals.
 
Scouting Queens College Knights
 
The Knights are 3-2 on the season and getting regional recognition and are ranked #9 in the East Region for two straight weeks. Coming a 1-1 last week, the Knights will look to change their fortune. Sophomore Nicholas Tagios (East Williston, N.Y.) leads the Knights with five goals on the season including a hat trick against Holy Family. Offensively the Knights are taking 11.2 shots per game with 0.357 shots on goal percentage. Junior goalie Dario Cruz (3-2) has started all five games in the net making 20 saves and holds 1.21 goals-against average. 
 
Scouting Bridgeport
 
The Griffins are 0-2-3 on the season and have played 330 minutes straight with the final result being a draw. Andrey McIntyre leads the offense with two goals while four other Griffins have scored a goal apiece. In goal, Mahmoud Mahmoud has played 510 minutes making 23 saves with a 1.59 goals-against average. 
 
Next Match-up: The Knights return to East Coast Conference Saturday afternoon with a matchup against fellow CUNY College of Staten Island. Kickoff slated for 2:00 P.M.
