#42 Women’s Tennis Concludes Season in NCAA East Regional First Round

FLUSHING, N.Y.- For the first time since the 2015-16 season, the #42 nationally ranked Queens College women's tennis team season ends in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship Round of 32 as the Knights suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the #T48 Franklin Pierce University Ravens in Flushing.
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights found themselves trailing early on as the Ravens took the doubles point. 
 
The Knights No. 1 doubles duo of sophomore Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) / senior Lovisa Engstrand (Stockholm, Sweden)  fell 6-4 to the Ravens duo of Himani Mor / Liria Loria. 
 
The Knights No. 3 sophomore doubles pair of Gabriela Sciarotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) / Aleksandra Caricic (New York, N.Y.) tied the doubles competition at 1-1 as they defeated the Ravens pair of Estela Carra / Zoe Asterio Correa to the score of 6-4. 
 
The Ravens would take a 1-0 lead going into singles competition as the Knights No. 2 doubles duo of sophomore Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany)/ junior Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) fell 6-3 against Maria Aguilo / Laura Alvarez Tello. 
 
Singles Competition
 
The Knights quickly tie the match 1-1 at the No. 1 spot as Makal cruised to another two-set victory defeating Aguilo to the score of 6-2, 6-4. She ends the season undefeated with a record of 4-0. 
 
The Knights took a 2-1 lead as Ulander dispatched Mor at the No. 2 spot in two sets to the score of 6-4, 6-3. 
 
The Ravens would knot the match at 2-2 as Schmidt fell in three sets at the No. 6 spot against Correa to the score of 6-2, 1-6, 1-6. 
 
At the No. 4 spot the Woodmere native Sciarotta gave the Knights a 3-2 lead as she battled back from a first set defeat of 2-6 against Tello to win the second and third set to the score of 7-6 (9-7), 6-2. 
 
At the No. 3 spot Engstrand took a first set victory of 6-2, before falling 4-6 against Loria in the second set. The third set went to the tiebreaker as Loria tied the match at 3-3 with a 7-6 (7-5) victory. 
 
The Ravens would knock out the Knights with a win at the No. 5 spot as Caricic who trailed after losing the first set to the score of 6-1 but took the match into the third set needing a second set tiebreaker win of 7-6 (7-4). The Ravens would advanced to the next round as Caricic fell 6-2 in the third set ending the Knights season.
 
The Knights conclude the season with a 3-2 overall record and having won their second straight East Coast Conference championship and their 20th straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
