Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC Falls in Season Finale to Daemen

AMHERST, N.Y.– On Saturday afternoon that saw a combined total of 22 shots on goals and six goals scored but none came off the foot of any Queens College men's soccer player as the Knights were defeated by Daemen College Wildcats at Karrer Field.

The Knights conclude the season with a 4-2 loss in East Coast Conference to the Wildcats to finish 8-8 overall, 3-6 ECC. Under head coach Frank Vertullo the Knights finish .500 for the third time in four seasons.

How It Happened
  • It was a strong start by the Knights but it was the Wildcats who opened the floodgates as Arthur Djengue put the home side up 1-0 in the 11th minute of play.
  • Queens would get a goal back in the 20th minute to tie the game up.
  • The Knights consistently pressured Wildcats goalie Marcos Escobar but he would continue to deny the Knights on each shot put on goal.
  • The Wildcats would take a 2-1 lead six minutes into the second half as they took advantage of a set-piece.
  • Attempting to comeback freshman Leonel Zelaya (Amityville, N.Y.) was denied the equalizer as Escobar stood his ground.
  • The Wildcats would take advantage on a counterattack to take a 3-1 lead in the 75th minute.
  • Queens would cut into the deficit four minutes later but trailed 3-2 with 12 minutes left in regulation.
  • Daemen would effectively take the game away from Queens with their fourth goal of the game and defeat the Knights 4-2 to end their season on a sour note.
By the Numbers
  • The Knights were outshot 23-19 while holding the advantage with 12-10 shots on goal margin.
  • Sophomore Nicholas Tagios (East Williston, N.Y.) and senior Erik Hernandez (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) attempted a team-high three shots on goal.
