Women’s Soccer vs. University of Bridgeport Game Day Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College women's soccer team continues East Coast Conference action as they go up against the University of Bridgeport on the road. In their 25 overall meetings, the Knights are 3-19-3. Queens' last win against Bridgeport came in 2010 as the Knights took a 2-1 victory on the road. Despite having won only three games in their overall series, Queens has taken two wins on the road with their first-ever victory coming in 1999, the Knights' first season as a program.

In a hard-fought back and forth battle where both defenses were up to the mark, it was the Purple Knights who went home with the victory with a 1-0 victory as Bridgeport scored the winner in the 84th minute. Though out-shot by a 14-12 margin, QC put more shots on goal (7-5) than the competition. Shannon Gibbons put all four of her shot attempts on target in the effort but each effort was parried by UB keeper Helena Dahlstrom. Alexis Quealy and Victoria Ramirez combined for five total shots in the contest as well.
 
Scouting Queens College Knights
 
Queens enters the final week of the regular season with a 3-7-1 overall, 2-5-1 ECC record. The Knights are coming off a 1-1 double overtime-draw against D'Youville College. Sophomore Marina Pappas (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season in the final four minutes of regulation to help avoid the loss for the Knights. The 86th marker was Pappas' second goal in back-to-back games with the New Hyde Park native scoring the lone goal in the Knights 3-1 loss to Mercy College back on Oct. 22.  
 
Scouting University of Bridgeport 
 
Bridgeport (9-6-1 overall, 3-3-1 ECC) are on a three-game winning streak having outscored their opponents 15-2 in their last three games. The Purple Knights went 6-1-1 in October. Evelyn Hammer leads the offense with 6 goals, while three other players have scored four goals apiece. In goal, Clara Karlsson has played 15 games and is holding 1.13 goals-against average with four shutouts on the season. 
 
Next Match-up: The Knights conclude the season against Daemen College Wildcats on Saturday (Nov. 6). Kickoff set for 11:00 A.M.
