Women’s Soccer at #24 Molloy College Lions Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College women's soccer team travels to Rockville Centre, N.Y. for an East Coast Conference matchup against defending 2019 ECC champions #24 Molloy College Lions at RVC Athletic Complex. The Knights are 9-11-1 in the overall series and have been held winless since the Lions visited Flushing back on Sept. 19, 2015.

The 2019 season ended at the hands of the Lions as Queens fell 2-1 on senior day. After Molloy took a 1-0 in the 8thminute of play, Sarafina Smith would tie the game in the 40th minute before the Lions would retake the lead several minutes later. In a game controlled by the Lions, the Knights were only able to land four shots on goals. 
 
Scouting Queens College Knights
 
The Knights (3-3-1 overall, 2-1 ECC) are coming off a 14-1 victory against Lincoln University (PA) Lions. Freshman Jacklyn Diel (Stony Brook, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 4 for her first career hattrick in the 14-1 win over Lincoln.  On the offense sophomore Samantha Pinto (Jericho, N.Y.) leads the Knights with four goals, while four knights have scored three goals. 
Freshman Sarah Anderson (East Setauket, N.Y.)  has distributed a team-high three assists and two goals to begin her career in Flushing. 
 
Scouting Molloy College Lions
 
The Lions are ranked #24 in the country with an overall record of 8-2, 3-1 in conference play. Molloy suffered their first conference loss of the season as they were defeated 3-1 by Daemen College but bounced back with a 1-0 victory against Jefferson in non-conference action. Verni Lexi leads the Lions with 10 goals and two assists for a team-high 14 points. Joanna Graca has tallied a team-high three assists. In goal, Jackie Carty has started all 10 games for the Lions making 37 saves with 0.49 goals-against average on the season.
 
Next Match-up: The Knights will finally play host in one of two games this season as Roberts Wesleyan Comes to town on Saturday (Oct. 16). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Central Islip, N.Y. at The Susa Orlin & Cohen Sports Complex.
