Women’s Tennis Closes out Fall 2021 Regular Season with 7-0 Sweep of Molloy

FLUSHING, N.Y.- On Friday afternoon, the Queens College women's tennis team (4-2 overall, 3-2 ECC) completed the East Coast Conference portion of the regular season with a 7-0 sweep of Molloy College Lions (1-6 overall, 1-3 ECC) at the Queens College Tennis Center. 
 
Before the start of play, joined by Athletic Director Rob Twible, head coach Alan Nagel and the women's tennis team honored graduating senior Mana Koitabashi (Yokohama, Japan) with the annual senior day ceremony.

How It Happened
  • The Knights made quick work in doubles play with a 3-0 sweep as the #2 doubles pair of Mariana Ling (Orlando, Flordia) / Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) shutout Hannah Niggemeier/ Gwen Kelly to the score of 6-0. 
  • It was another 6-0 sweep at #1 as the duo of junior Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland)/ senior Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) swept Alyssa Baur/Julie Riedel. 
  • Lastly the #3 doubles duo of sophomore Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) / Chole Certain (Obernai, France) 
  • picked up a 6-2 victory over Brooke Williams/Briana Gonzalez. 
  • The sweep continues in singles play as Ling shutout Gonzalez to the score of 6-0, 6-0 before Koitabashi swept Amanda Oppedisano with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. 
  • Sciarrotta would give the Knights the victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3 as she defeated Niggemeier. 
  • Ulander would put the Knights up 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory before freshman Shakima Hotaki (Flushing, N.Y.)  picked up her second victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Brooke Williams. 
  • Makal would complete the 7-0 sweep at #1 with a three-set victory over Riedel to the score of 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4). 
Next Match-up: With the regular season concluded, the East Coast Conference championship begins on Friday (Oct. 30). More information later this week as the Knights await their opponent and time.
