MSOC Drops Conference Road Contest to District of Columbia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Queens College men's soccer team fell on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-1 battle to the University of District of Columbia Firebirds in East Coast Conference play. 
 
The Knights struck first as sophomore Tobias Holtz (Sachseln, Switzerland) scored his first goal of the season but the Firebirds scored three unanswered goals in the second half to move Queens to 5-4 overall, 1-3 in conference, while UDC improved to 5-4 overall, 4-0 in ECC action.
 
How It Happened
  • The Knights started the aggressive team as sophomore Marco Oliveri's (Whitestone, N.Y.) first shot of the content stayed wide. 
  • Queens shots in the 15th and 16th minute would get blocked as the Knights were continued to open the scoring. 
  • Holtz would finally give the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of play as the midfielder scored his first goal of the season. 
  • After a red card to Imrane Achahi gave the Knights a man-up advantage, Queens continues to attack but were unable to find the back of the net. 
  • In the 38th minute, Holtz was denied by the crossbar as his shot hit the crossbar but Queens went into the half with a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Knights came out flat in the second half as Michel Egbame tied the game 1-1 in the 53rd minute 
  • But the Queens offense never found their rhythm in the second half as Victor Gomes scored the game-winner in the 68th minute before adding his second goal of the game in the 88th minute to put the game away from the Knights. 
By the Numbers
  • Despite being the dominant team in the first half with a 9-5 shots advantage, Queens was held to one shot in the second half as UDC held an overall 11-10 (6-3 shots on goal) advantage.
  • The Knights were held to three shots on goal with sophomore Leo Pinto (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Milton Sionakides (Astoria, N.Y.) recording the other two shots on goal. 
UP NEXT: East Coast Conference action continues for the Knights on Saturday (Oct. 9) as they go up against Molloy College Lions in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
