What I Know Now- Grace Sciretta '21

Flushing, NY- Queens College Dance team junior Grace Sciretta '21 shares her thoughts in the fourth edition of "WHAT I KNOW NOW"

Being on the Queens College dance team has easily been the most fulfilling part of my college career. I was given a new group of friends that very quickly became my family. I will forever cherish our late-night food runs, being roommates with one of my best friends, and experiencing something together that only we could understand. We laughed, cried, made memories inside and outside of the studio, and created a bond that no matter what can never be broken. That is what has been the most influential about my experience on the dance team. The unbreakable connections I've made with these girls.

It is devastating to realize that we were supposed to touch down in Daytona, FL this year.  It was our goal. Long nights, early mornings, sweat, tears, injuries, soreness, exhaustion. We all pushed through because we knew it was all worth it for that one moment we dreamed about.  To compete on that stage in Daytona. NDA nationals has been our vision since our preparation began in August. Many other teams have multiple games throughout their season. We train all season for our one shot.  It is a crushing realization that we were robbed of our opportunity to shine on that stage.

Though it is a heartbreaking situation, I am grateful for everything we have been through along the way.  I wouldn't have connected with this team. I wouldn't have learned such valuable lessons about leadership, commitment, discipline, and respect.  I love these girls with everything I have. This circumstance proves that it truly is about the journey and not the destination. I want nothing more than for my best friends, and for the world, to just heal.  That is what matters now.
