FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 1, 2019) - Both
Allie Stanya and
Emma Wimmer pitched complete games for the Queens College softball team on Monday (Apr. 1) in an East Coast Conference doubleheader against LIU Post at the QC Softball Complex. Unfortunately, the Pioneers had too much offense and earned victories of 5-0 and 8-0 over the Knights.
Game One: LIU Post 5, Queens (NY) 0
Stanya tossed her third complete game of the season and limited the LIU Post offense to just four hits on a blustery afternoon in Flushing while striking out two batters. The freshman pitcher was the unfortunate recipient of a two-homer game by Pioneers catcher Julia Seader, who went deep in the first and in the second with the latter being a three-run shot. The Knights, meanwhile, mustered a three-hit performance against Katie Humhej with
Noelle Bryggman posting a two-hit game.
Sharina Nazario had the other base hit for the Knights in the effort.
Game Two: LIU Post 8, Queens (NY) 0 - Six Innings
Wimmer threw several strong innings in the circle for the Knights in the second game of the doubleheader, yielding only three earned runs in total on the afternoon. The rookie hurler allowed a two-run home run to Megan Sneeden in the second inning, but kept the ball in the park for the rest of the game. A two-run inning in the fourth and a four-run spurt in the eighth totaled up the final score. Queens put together six base hits against LIU starter Hannah Olshevski, with Nazario going 2-for-2 in the proverbial nightcap. Bryggman had a base hit as did
Danielle D'Angelo,
Katherine Gallagher and
Rachel Katz.
Queens will look for victories on Thursday (Apr. 4) as the Knights head to Dobbs Ferry to take on Mercy College at 2:30 p.m.
