Ndukauba Has Strong Game off Bench as Women's Basketball Opens Home Court Versus SNHU

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2019) - Freshman center Chidinma Ndukauba posted a strong 12 points off the bench for the Queens College women's basketball team as the Knights faced Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday (Nov. 20) in the program's home opener. However, it would be the Penmen coming away with the 59-48 victory over the Knights at Lucille Kyvallos Court at Fitzgerald Gymnasium as SNHU shot 62% from the floor in the first quarter and 58% in the third to give the visitors the win.

Ndukauba went 6-of-9 from the floor and added eight rebounds and three blocks for the Knights (1-4) while junior guard Zorria West collected a team-best 17 points and 13 rebounds to earn her first double-double of the season. The Coram native also chipped in four assists and three blocks. Brianne Moxley and Raiana Brown each scored seven points for Queens with Brown totaling seven boards as well.

Gyanna Russell led Southern New Hampshire with a game-high 18 points and was one of four Penmen players in double-figures on the evening. Karlee Ziliak had 11 points while Victoria Dean added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Adriana Timberlake poured in 10 points.

Queens ended the night shooting 33% (21-63) from the floor with just one three-pointer made in ten total attempts. The Knights were also just 5-for-12 (41.7%) from the free throw line. QC did out-rebound the opposition by a 42-29 margin but Southern New Hampshire had 19 points off of the Knights' 18 turnovers in the contest.

After a West free throw opened the scoring, SNHU went on a 15-2 run over the next six minutes of action. Queens would score six unanswered points thanks to two buckets by Brown and a jumper from West but the visitors ended the first quarter with a 22-10 lead. After the Penmen took the lead to a 17-point margin early in the second quarter, QC settled down and fought back to bring the deficit within a ten-point game at halftime as SNHU led 31-21 at the break. The Penmen would return to their hot-shooting ways in the third period as the visitors led 52-33 at the break and held on despite being outscored by Queens in the final quarter by a 15-7 margin.

Queens will travel to Waltham, Mass. on Saturday (Nov. 23) to take on Bentley University at the Dana Center in a non-conference match-up. Tip-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
