QC Men's Soccer Plays To a 2-2 Draw In Season Opener

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The Queens College men's soccer team (0-0-1) kicked off its 2016 season Saturday afternoon with a 2-2 draw with Philadelphia University at Ravenhill Field.  The tie stopped a previous four game losing streak for the Knights in season openers, dating back to 2011.

Sophomore Andras Breuer's charge started the Knights season in flashy fashion when he fired a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner in the first three minutes of the game to open the scoring. The Rams knotted the game with a Devon Memis goal in the 10th minute.

Andrew Sauers' header gave Philadelphia a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute off a corner kick by Armando Canela. Hunter Dyson would have doubled the Rams lead 3-1 in the 57th minute if not a timely save by senior goalie Robbie Webster. The Knights tied the game at two in the 74th minute when sophomore Jonathan Jaramillo scored his first goal in Knights colors with a rebound shot into the top of the box from 18 yards out.

A shot by senior Nikolas Maher in the 105th minute that hit the crossbar and Jaramillo's header in the 107th minute that went wide were the Knights' best overtime chances.  QC held a 4-2 shot advantage in extra time but each time failed to find the back of the net.

Webster posted a game high eight saves, while Rams goalie Eric Gutierrez had five saves on the day. The Knights led in corner kicks (10-7), while the Rams held the advantage in shots (19-16) and shots on goal (10-5). Both teams had 18 fouls a piece.

UP NEXT: The Knights continue their non-conference action on Tuesday, Sept 6. as they travel to Rutherford, New Jersey to face Felician with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm.
