Men's Soccer Out Shoots Philadelphia University, But Falls 1-0 In Season Opener

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College men's soccer team dropped its 2015 season opener 1-0 to Philadelphia University Friday afternoon at QC Soccer Field.  Following a scoreless first half, Rams reserve Ishmaiah Calwrie headed in the contest's lone tally in the 58th minute.

Overall the Knights held a 16-7 advantage in shots during the physical contest, which included 32 total fouls.  The game featured five yellow cards and one red cards, all assessed to Philadelphia.

Senior midfielder Glen Reid and Paul Sandoval each contributed a game high four shots in the game.  Reid had a pair of close chances in the 73rd minute, when his first shot in the front of the net was blocked, and his follow up flew high.

Reid also put a shot into the right corner in the 79th minute that was stopped on a sensational save by the Rams' Ben Sauer.  Sandoval's 89th minute attempt sailed just wide as well in the closing minutes.

Junior goalkeeper James Brostowski made three saves in net for the Knights.  Sauer finished with three saves.  Queens is back in action Tuesday afternoon at home against Felician, beginning at 4:00 pm.
