Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Saint Anselm Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at QC Soccer Field.
A 69th minute penalty kick goal by senior forward Paul Sandoval gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the second half. The Hawks answered with the final two goals of the contest, each off the foot of freshman Emmet O'Callaghan.
Senior midfielder Isaiah Kossine got Queens on the board in the 11th minute when he dropped a header in to the right post off a cross from Sandoval. The advantage marked the first lead of the season for the Knights.
Just over four minutes later, in the 15th minute, Jack Lynch evened the contest for the Hawks when he converted on a penalty kick for his first goal of the season. Following the Hawks' goal, the Knights attempted 13 of their 22 overall shots before a yellow card to Saint Anselm resulted in Sandoval's then go-ahead tally.
O'Callaghan, inserted into the contest after Sandoval's goal, knotted the game at two after finding the net off a throw in from Dan Kelly before putting across the game winner by hitting a shot into the left side of the net off a pass from Jack Heintzelman.
The Knights outshot the Hawks 22-10 in the game, and held an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks. Queens goalkeeper James Brostowski made two stops, while Helio Meirelles Neto made four stops for Saint Anselm.
The Knights are back in action Sept. 19 against Molloy at 3:00 pm in league action.
