Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - On a cold windy Tuesday afternoon in East Coast Conference action, the Queens College women's soccer team (4-8-3, ECC 2-4-2) play to a draw 1-1 against Dowling College (6-7-2, ECC 2-3-2).
Prior to kickoff, the Knights honored their six senior student-athletes in defenders Itzel Guzman, Monica Lupo, Bridget Gleason, forwards Nicolette Scrozzo, Karysa Pikoulas and midfielder Gena Koutsounadis.
QC struck in the 11th minute when three of the seniors played a hand to put the Knights up 1-0 as a corner kick from Lupo found Gleason's head for only it to be saved. Pikoulas was in the box to connect on the rebound to give the Knights the early lead. Queens held up the lead until the 79th minute when Dowling's Astasia Williams-Bertles scored off a free kick to knot the game at one.
In overtime, Dowling's Taylor Davide scored the golden goal but was called on offside on the 91st minute attempt. Scrozzo almost scored to give the Knights the victory but was stopped by a final save by Mariah Valva to keep the match at a stalemate.
In the end, Queens goalies Megan Deak and Kimberly Chacko split time in net, finishing with seven saves in total. Valva made four saves on the day.
Next Kickoff: QC concludes the regular season on Saturday October 31, when the Knights travel to Old Westbury, NY to face ECC conference foe NYIT at 12:00 pm.
